The day after we went to Isshiki Beach, I woke up with a strong sense of fatigue. I had a runny nose and sore throat, so I probably caught a cold.
To avoid waking Alice, who was sleeping comfortably next to me, I slowly got up from the bed and took the first aid kit from the shelf and pulled out a thermometer from inside.
“……Whoa, it’s thirty-seven degrees. No wonder I’m so sluggish.”
The thermometer showed a number considerably higher than the normal temperature. This was no doubt a cold, as expected. Probably because I had been hanging around wet for a while after playing in the sea yesterday.
“I must rest and not go anywhere today.”
I had planned to finish the remaining assignments for the summer vacation today, but it was impossible with my condition. Fortunately, there are still a few days left before the second semester make-up classes, so I’ll give up on doing it today.
I took out a mask, cold medicine and cooling sheet from the first aid kit, Alice who was sleeping in bed woke up.
“Good morning, Takuma…..wait, your face is red!?”
“I’ve got a cold, as you can see. Are you feeling alright Alice?”
“I’m fine.”
Apparently I was the only one who caught a cold.
“It’s bad if I infect Alice, so I’m going to go back to my house.”
“Eh, What about food? I think mother-in-law works part-time and won’t be home until nighttime.”
“I’ll just have a cup of noodles or a retort-pouch curry, I’ll be fine, and I’ll probably get over it if I just take my cold medicine and go to bed.”
“Don’t underestimate a cold, it can kill you. I’ll take good care of you and you can go back to bed right now.”
Alice stopped me as I was packing my bags. It would be fine if I had some kind of illness, but I’m extremely healthy and it’s highly unlikely that I would die from just a cold.
But Alice looked so serious that I didn’t know what I would do if I disobeyed her, so I did as I was told and went back to bed.
“Then I’ll go to the kitchen and make some porridge.”
“Yeah, please do.”
“You know what to do, but please rest well.”
Alice said and walked out of the room. While I was waiting, I thought about surfing the Internet on my phone, but I quit because I wasn’t feeling as well as I had imagined.
A few minutes passed quickly, and Alice returned to the room with a tray of porridge and water.
“Sorry to keep you waiting.”
“Thanks, that really helps.”
I replied and picked up a spoon to eat the porridge on the desk. I’m not sure if it’s because I’m tired or what, but the spoon feels a little heavier than usual.
“I’ll feed it to you, so you don’t have to strain yourself.”
“No, no, it’s embarrassing for a seventeen year old to have someone feed him.”
“We’re going to be a couple anyway, so there’s no need to be shy.”
I had to accept this because I knew from previous experience how difficult it would be to stop Alice from doing this.
“…I understand, then I’ll ask you to feed me.”
“Yes, yes, that’s good. Yes, ah-n.”
Alice spooned a bowl of porridge and brought it to my mouth. I ate it with a little hesitation.
“Yeah, it’s delicious… but I think it’s still a little hot.”
“I’m sorry, I forgot to cool it down. Whenever I make porridge for Takuma, I always forget to do so.”
I feel like Alice said something strange, but maybe I misheard it because my brain wasn’t working properly due to the fever. While thinking about this, Alice brought the porridge to her mouth.
“Hey, what are you trying to do?!”
“Eh, I’m just trying to cool it down by huffing it with my breath?”
For a moment I thought she might be trying to feed me porridge by mouth, but it seems that was not the case. Perhaps the fever was making him a little crazy.
“I’m glad you feel that way, but you don’t have to go that far. I just need to wait for a while until it cools down.”
“I wanted to make Takuma eat it as soon as possible.”
“But you know. ……”
“It’s okay, it’s okay.”
Alice refuses to budge an inch by saying such things. So I had no choice but to relent. Alice blows the porridge with her breath to cool it down, then brings it to her mouth just like before.
“Takuma, ahn.”
The porridge that Alice fed me had cooled down to a more palatable temperature. After eating the porridge several times, I took the medicine with the water that had been prepared for me.
“I’ll do all the housework today, so Takuma just rest and sleep.”
“Thank you, I’ll pay you back when I get better.”
“Yeah, Good night.”
As I watched Alice leave the room, I started feeling dazed while looking at the ceiling, and gradually fell into a deep sleep and lost consciousness.
In the end, my cold got better the next day, but on the other hand, Alice caught a cold and had to take care of her, which is another story.
