“See you later.”
Today, my sister had a field day at her high school, and she was dressed up a little more than usual in her gym clothes instead of her school uniform.
I’ve been looking forward to the day when I’ll be able to go out with my family and friends.
My sister told me to stay at home and be quiet, but she and onii chan both came to cheer me on at my field day, and I wanted to see them at school, too!
“What should I bring with me?~”
I excitedly took out the things I had secretly prepared and hidden in my backpack yesterday and checked the contents.
teacher said it was important to point and check everything.
“snacks, programs, and onee chan’s hand-me-down phone~!”
The snacks were gummy bears and soda pop that I had been saving instead of eating.
I had asked my sister yesterday what her and onii chan’s programs were going to be, and circled them with a pencil.
And the most important thing is this phone.
I can’t look things up, but I can take pictures, so I’m going to use it to take lots of pictures of onee chan and onii chan
The time now is 8:30 in the morning.
The program list says radio gymnastics at 9:00.
The place is a little further away from the kindergarten, and I know how long it will take because I always walk there.
“I forgot to bring tea.”
I took out a bottle of tea from the refrigerator and put everything I was going to bring in my backpack.
I opened the door of my house and headed to the school where they are.
“Everyone can’t know I’m going out ~!”
I sang a song I saw on TV one day as I walked along.
“Do re mi fa sola sola sola sola”
I walked for about 30 minutes, sometimes drinking tea and sometimes eating sweets while enjoying myself in this way.
“Here we are!~”
I finally arrived at the school where they go to school.
Many adults were coming and going at the entrance, and I could hear announcements and the voices of many people inside the school.
I walked to the field, following the sound of the crowd.
I arrived at the field, but I couldn’t tell from the program from the program list what event was being held there.
”I’m sorry. Which one is it now?”
“Hm? Now, this~”
I showed the program list to a kind-looking mother nearby and asked her about it, and she kindly pointed to the 100m run and answered. That’s a competition with onee chan
“Where can I watch it?”
“Well~ I want to see it, too, so let’s go together.”
“Yes! Thanks!”
“Well, you’re a good girl.”
With that, the mother took me to the front, where it was easier to see.
“Here, you can see better.”
“Thank you!”
I took the program out of my backpack and circled in pencil the times for my sister’s performance.
I look for her among the students wearing the same gym uniform on the field.
“Oh! That’s my sister!”
I spot a familiar figure in the distance.
She is standing at the starting line along with the other girls.
She looks a little different from my usual gentle sister as she stares ahead with a serious expression on her face.
“Onee-chan ……”
I knew that if I cheered for her, she would notice my arrival and wake me up, so I decided to do my best to cheer her on in my mind.
I took out my phone from my backpack and prepared to take a good picture of my sister.
I never miss a shutter chance!
The sound of a pistol echoed through the air, signaling the start of the race.
The sight of my sister running off at once was as fast as the wind.
I was so excited that I snapped the shutter of my camera and kept my eyes on her until the moment she crossed the finish line.
“Yay! onee chan you came in first! That’s amazing!”
My sister had finished in first place.
I checked my photo folder and found some beautiful photos of her, and I thought that maybe I was good at taking photos.
After a while, it was time for onii chan’s cavalry battle.
“Where’s onii chan……?”
I set up my phone again, and this time I looked for oni chan
In the middle of the ground, a large number of students wearing red and white headdresses are gathered.
I was sure that onii chan was wearing the same white hachimaki as my sister, so I stared at the white group.
“Ah, there he is!”
Onii chan was riding with the other students
I saw that he was sitting on top of the horse, higher than me, and I held up my phone again, ready to take a picture so that I wouldn’t miss my chance.

I cheered him on with all my might in my heart again.
The cavalry battle started with the signal of the whistle.
I was so absorbed in chasing after onii chan’s cavalry horse that I had to take pictures.
He was walking behind the horses around him.
(Go! Go, onii chan!)
My voice was not heard, and my brother’s horse was targeted by the red man’s horse.
The red man’s horse was advancing toward my brother’s horse and reaching out its hand to him.
Just when he thought he was in trouble, onii chan timed his attack just right and took aim at the red man’s hachimaki…
“Yes!”
Onii chan cavalry horse successfully took the other’s hachimaki!
I was overjoyed and captured the moment on my phone.
“Onii chan! That’s so cool!”
Then he took the two hachimaki and then his horse collapsed.
I checked my photo folder and found some cool pictures, and I thought again that maybe I was good at taking pictures.
Then, at noon, when the competition was over, I realized that I had made the biggest mistake of all.
“I hadn’t thought about lunch.”
I had not thought about lunch, and I was so tired from walking all the way here alone in the blazing sun that I sat in the shadows behind the building with a snack and a cup of tea in my hand and thought about what I would do next.
