The day of the sports festival arrived in the blink of an eye.
It was a sunny day for the sports festival, but my heart was downcast from the despair of having to exercise under such scorching sun.
Just like Sakine-chan’s kindergarten sports day, the father took the place, took pictures of his child’s brave figure with a shaky camera, and when they went home, laughed and chuckled about how blurry the pictures were.
The tents are divided into different colours, and from there into different grades.
The sight of the students, each wearing a different coloured headband, neatly divided is quite interesting.
“Haaa……….”
In the tent of the white class of our 2nd year, I can hear the voice of someone muttering thinly and I can’t help but giggle.
Looking at the tent of the 3rd year white class next door, you can see that they are very excited because it is their last high school sports festival, and when you look at the tent of the 1st year white class next door, you can see that it is their first high school sports festival. I’m currently trying to figure out what kind of tension I should take on the challenge.
Nearly half of the second-year red group looked sluggish, feeling sluggish between the grades, so I don’t know who muttered those words.
“Hikaru-kun! do your best!”
It was Nishihara Natsuki, who called out to me, her white hachimaki wrapped around her bottom to top and tied in a ribbon knot.
“Wait! Are you mickey mouse!”
“Hehehe. It’s a good thing, isn’t it? I got my friend to tie it for me just now~”
The fact that she gives a small peace sign while saying this reminds me of a beautiful girl who has come to play in the land of the mice.
“–Still, everyone’s not motivated.”
Nishihara looks around and smiles bitterly.
“Well, most of the motivated ones are probably in the athletic department. Isn’t it rare to find someone as motivated as you?”
“Eeh, I don’t think so. See?”
The direction that Nishihara pointed to was directly behind our tent.
There was a familiar fellow there, with his short-sleeved gym uniform pulled up to his shoulders, showing off his well-trained muscles.
“I’m going to win!”
“Oh, yeah!”
“I’m going to win!”
“Oh!”
“We’re going for the red team championship”
“Ooooooh– ooooh !!!!!!”
The same class guys formed a circle around Ryuki and were excited with shouts like that.
“That’s the exception. Look at the air the first years drew.”
The first year tent on the opposite side of the room is pointed out with a thumb, and she smiles bitterly, saying ‘aryaa’
“W-well, ……. Maybe you don’t have to be that motivated, but you could be a little more motivated.”
Trying to answer Nishihara’s words, ‘That’s right! Hikaru!’ A passionate voice says.
“It’s a sports festival after all! Let’s have fun! Let’s live up to your name.”
“Shut up.”
In the midst of this exchange, our sports festival began without a hitch.
The current event is the women’s 100 m run.
I watched it from my own tent.
As I recall, Hina said she was going to take part in the race – oh, there she is.
I could easily spot her because she was different from the others and had a distinctly shining aura.
When I saw her earlier, she didn’t have her hair tied up, but it looks like she’s wearing it in a ponytail, as if it gets in the way when she’s exercising.
Looks like the cue is – it’s still a long way off.
“Tahara-kun.”
As I gazed at the girls in a daze, I heard an unfamiliar male voice.
I turn around to see my classmates, Egami, Takimoto and Hayata, standing in front of me.
“Hmm? What’s wrong?”
I don’t get on well with my classmates, I only know them by name, so it’s unusual that they have something to do with me.
“Well.”
“Look, we”
“We’re on the same team in the cavalry.”
“Ah! Yes, yes, yes. Next is the cavalry match, right? Nice to meet you.”
“So, Tahara-kun. What are you going to do?”
Takimoto asks, ‘Hmm?’ Egami answers.
“Do you want me to ride on top of you or support you from below?”
“Yes, yes, yes. Position.”
The team had been decided at random, but nothing had been decided on which position to take in the cavalry battle.
How is it possible to decide on the day? I think it’s my fault for not communicating with them.
“Well…. Does everyone have a preference?”
Hayata was the first to answer our question.
“I want to go downstairs.”
Hearing his words, the other two also added their voices, ‘Me too’.
Then the three of them started staring at me.
“Yeah, um, …….”
The six eyes put pressure on me, as if they were telling me to read the air. I’m really scared.
“Umm, up……?”
When I reply in a probing manner, their eyes change to a satisfied look.
“That’s right.”
“Tahara-kun is kind of a top.”
“Give us a job.”
Ah, hahaha. These guys are kind of hard to tangle with …….
When I was smiling bitterly, one of the three said, ‘It’s Matsumura-san’, as if spilling out, so I turned my gaze back and saw Hina standing at the starting point.
“Huh? is she looking at me?”
“No way. She wouldn’t be looking at us lowlifes, would she?”
“S-shut up.”
But …… it is true that they are right, I think Hina is glancing at our tent.
Maybe she’s looking for me?
Believing this, I looked around and secretly waved my hand so that no one would notice, and Hina gave me a big wave.
“She waved”
“So it wasn’t us, right?”
“Shut up. If you’re a man, shut up and do it.”
The three of them probably didn’t see me waving, and regardless of my thoughts, the sound of the starter pistol rang out and the players all started at the same time.
Side-by-side start. It’s a good match. –The only one who is excluded is Hina.
Hina makes a dash for the start and crosses the midfield with a considerable gap to the second-place finisher.
“Wow!”
The gallery shouts because she is so fast.
In the midst of such cheers, Hina glanced at our tent around the middle of the race, so I smiled at her.
(Go for it!)
With the gallery cheering, she finishes the race with time to spare.
Hina receives a flag with ‘first place’ written on it while waving to the spectators.
This is the kind of place where I think she is as expected
When my eyes met Hina’s, I gave her a thumbs-up and she gave me a big smile in return.
