“H-hey, hey ! It was Sasatsuki Mika just now, right !? You were talking to Sastsuki Mika aka Nessie of Amanohashidate Academy, right?”

“After the Invisible, now Nessie? Sasatsuki has so many nicknames.”

She is treated as if she were a rare animal, but it is not surprising that she is called that when you consider her ability to erase her presence.

“It doesn’t matter what nicknames she has ! What’s important is that you’ve become friends with Sasatsuki after Asakura, so let’s hear your explanation !”

“There’s no explanation, it’s just that…..we happened to talk to each other and we hit it off. Nothing more, nothing less.”

“Isn’t it strange that you happened to call out to Sasatsuki !? Ordinarily, you wouldn’t be able to recognize her figure, let alone call out to her !?”

“I can only say that it’s thanks to what my grandpa taught me in the countryside.  I think Wada will be able to master this after spending about a month in the mountains.”

Wada cowered his shoulders while letting out a sigh at my suggestion. What a waste. If he could experience being at one with nature, he would be able to read Sasatsuki’s presence easily.

“I was born and raised in the city, so there’s no way I could survive in such a harsh place. I’ll be dead in the streets in less than three days !”

“Really? You never know until you try–hm? What is it?”

The phone in my breast pocket vibrates. I checked it and found that I had received a message from Kanna. The content of the message was,

[You seem to be enjoying your lunch break a lot.]

No emoji, no stamp, just a simple short message. But I could understand the feelings in the message because I have known her since childhood.

“…She’s angry. Very angry.”

“What’s wrong, Itsuki?”

I was looking at the screen of my phone and was silent, and Wada asked me with a puzzled look. Now, how should I reply?

It was out of the question to not read the message. If I did that, my spirit would be crushed by the silent pressure of a smile when I got home. Or rather, why is Kanna angry in the first place?

[We all made a promise, didn’t we? We all promised not to talk too much when we are at school. But why…I’m furious and angry right now.]

[I don’t think it’s me that you should be saying that to, but Asakura and Sasatsuki !]

I reflexively replied with a message that was more angry than I expected, but how did Kanna, who wasn’t in the classroom, know that I was talking to the two of them? It’s not like she has a wiretapping device installed on my body.

[The intelligent Jinpei kun would have thought about how would I know all of this.]

[…..Why is that?]

[It’s because I have the ability of psychic sensing. By linking my consciousness to Jinpei kun’s, I can see what he is doing.]

What is this young lady saying all of a sudden? I looked at it twice or thrice and still had no idea what she was talking about. The only thing I can make out is the smug look on Kanna’s face as she types this sentence.

[In other words, to make it easier to understand….I planted a bug in the inside pocket of Jinpei kun’s blazer.]

[You’re kidding me !? No matter if we’re childhood friends, there are things you can do and things you can’t do !?]

The blazer was immediately taken off and the inside pocket was rummaged through, but nothing like that could be found. Could it be that she has developed a high-performance and ultra-compact eavesdropping device?

[I’m just kidding. Just a few minutes ago, I received a report from Sasatsuki san. She’s warning me because you’re talking with Asakura san.]

[……You’re really joking, right? I can believe you, right?]

The reason I don’t quite trust her is because, aside from the psychotic comment, Kanna could seriously do that.

[Would you rather not believe me? Are you going to make me cry? I’m going to ruin this school with my tears, but is that okay? ]

[…It was my fault for doubting you.]

I’m glad we exchanged messages.  If this were a face-to-face conversation, she would have puffed out her cheeks and slapped me.

[In summary, the mummy hunter becomes the mummy.]

[……I see. As expected of Kanna. You have a sharp intuition.]

[Even though I’m desperately trying to hold back. This is so unfair. I request Jinpei kun to fill in the blanks !]

[What am I supposed to do?]

I can just picture Kanna banging on the desk and complaining. I can’t help but wonder if I have to fill in the blanks, but if I write it down, it will further aggravate Kanna’s mood, so I’ll have to be patient and just accept it.

[I’m glad to hear that you’re so quick to respond to my questions. Then please let me stay at your house during the Golden Week holidays. That’s all I ask.]

“……Haa ! !??”

The words come out first rather than typing.

Wada, sitting in front of me, asks, [What’s wrong?]. What is this childhood friend of mine suddenly saying?

It is extremely dangerous for a girl of that age to stay at the house of a man who lives alone. Moreover, even though we are childhood friends, it would be even worse if we were not dating. Well, it’s probably too late now that the three girls are staying at my house until late at night almost every day.

[It’s fine if we go out together, but wouldn’t it be a bad idea to sleep over? Aren’t your parents going to be angry too?]

[Fufu. Do not worry. Both my father and mother have given their approval, saying, [There is nothing to worry about, if it’s with Itsuki.] After all, they feel relieved if I was with Jinpei kun.]

[……You’re kidding, right?]

[Whether you believe me or not is up to Jinpei kun. We’ll talk more about the sleepover later.]

[See you later] a stamp of an otter waving her hand followed the message. I guess we’ll see what happens when I get home. I let out a heavy sigh, stopped thinking, and faced the rest of my bento.

“Itsuki…it looks like I need to have a physical discussion in order to remain friends with you. Get ready to grit your teeth !”

Wada utters a ghastly voice with an expression so distorted with hatred that he seems to be about to shed bright red tears at any moment.

“….Why should I do that?”

“Why? It’s obvious ! It’s because you’re flirting with Hanazono Kanna on your phone !”

“Amazing. How did you know that the other person was Kanna?”

“Anyone would have guessed it if you were just talking to Asakura and Sasatsuki earlier ! In fact, if it wasn’t Hanazono Kanna, I would have asked you to come to the court without any questioning !”

Wada shook his fist as he said this. I don’t know when he’s going to break down and jump on me. I would have asked him to calm down, but I’m at a loss as to what to do since it would be troublesome even if he asked me what kind of interaction we had.

“Haa…the world is really unfair. How long will I have to wait for the blue spring to come to me?”

As Wada cowered his shoulders and lamented, I decided to give him some advice as I popped the last of the fried chicken into my mouth.

“At least I don’t think it’s going to show up anytime soon if you just wait around.”

“Shut up ! Shut your mouth—! !”

Wada’s soulful, angry screams echoed throughout the classroom.

That night. I told this story to Kanna, who came over to my house as a matter of course, and she sighed and said,

[Jinpei- kun, you are so brutally cruel. I think there is no limit to your overkill.]

I told the same story to Asakura and Sasatsuki, who arrived late, and they gave me similar reactions. I don’t understand why.
