Gwynn told me about the history of discrimination against half-elves in the Kingdom of Barbados.

A deep-rooted discrimination that has persisted since the distant past. What kind of terrible things did they do to Rhys because of it? Since I could not ask Gwynn, I decided to ask her myself.

In order to fully retaliate against Limona.

I moved to my room again.

◇

“–I’m very sorry that Nozomi sama had to save my life for free, and I’m sorry that she even has to take care of me. ….ah, welcome back, Sora sama.”

“Welcome back, Sora,…..and Rhys Sure, your wounds have healed completely, but after all you’ve been through, you should at least take the day off.”

When I transferred to my room, I found Rhys in my bed, lying on her back with a wet towel on her head, and Nozomi, who seemed to be in the middle of caring for Rhys. Within a few minutes, the two seemed to have become quite close.

“Nozomi, how’s Rhys doing?”

“Well, she’s fine. The wounds have healed, but she’s still tired. The torture must have taken more out of her than her strength.”

“You seem to be in good spirits compared to that, Nozomi. I think the mental damage caused by reliving the experience is similar.”

“….There’s a world of difference between actually experiencing it and reliving it. It’s painful, but I’m used to the pain. …..I mean, Sora, are you worried about me by any chance?”

Nozomi seems to have never been worried before, huffed and puffed and gave me an expectant look.

I was so disgusted by her face that I lightly kicked her with my foot.

“Shut up, you idiot.”

Rhys looked at her with a complicated expression. Nozomi is the one who healed Rhys, and also the one who used to abuse me.

When I was removing Nozomi’s nails, Rhys was also watching from behind, so I guess she had some idea of the relationship between Nozomi and me.

“More importantly, Rhys. I have a question for you.”

“…….What is it?”

Rhys looked up at me with a slightly anxious expression and sat up.

“I’d like to ask you about your past. I heard that half-elves were discriminated against in the Kingdom of Barbados, and Gwynn also told me about the detailed history earlier. But there is something I couldn’t ask. …… Rhys. Your own past. I want to know what horrific treatment you suffered in the Kingdom of Barbados.”

“That’s…..what I want to know too.”

Rhys looks at me and Nozomi uneasily. Then she looked at me and closed her eyes.

Somehow, I felt like I was being reminded of my first meeting with my shitty father. Both Nozomi and I know the pain of the oppressed.

That’s why we can share Rhys’s pain, too.

“Right. Sora sama and my lifesaver Nozomi sama.–If the two of you want to hear it, there’s no reason not to talk about it.

…..I was seven years old when I moved to the Kingdom of Barbados—“

Rhys began to talk about his past in a platitude, closing hiereyes.

◇

Rhys was seven years old when it came time to move to the Kingdom of Barbatos.

It all started when Rhys’s father, an adventurer and wizard of the Elven tribe, was killed in battle when he failed in his mission to defeat Cyclops, a B-class demon, at the request of the Kingdom of Barbados.

Rhys’s father was strong. Maybe that mutant of the Cyclops that I killed instantly killed Rhys’s father, Rhys says.

Rhys and her mother, who had followed her father to the Kingdom of Barbados, were left behind.

It was not long before they learned that half-elves were discriminated against in the Kingdom of Barbados.

[Why won’t they let me ride in the carriage !?]

[Don’t you know there’s a bad omen you know. If there’s an accident on the trip, it’s a big deal.]

When the two of them tried to return to Rhys’s mother’s hometown, they were unable to get into the carriage.

The carriage belonging to Rhys’s father’s party was used for the trip, but all the members of the party and the carriage had been wiped out.

There were no carriages in the Kingdom of Barbados that would take Rhys and her mother.

Rhys and her mother were forced to stay in the Kingdom of Barbados.

However, if it is asked whether the lives of Rhys and her mother were extremely unfavorable, it is not true.

When Rhys arrived, there was no famine or plague in the kingdom of Barbados, and it was a peaceful place. Indeed, when she went outside, she was often bullied by children of her own age as an [Bad Omen] and she often felt bad about it.

However, Rhys had only one friend. Her name was Aisha.

Like Rhys, she is a half-elf girl. She is about 10 years older than Rhys, but she was a girl who was forced to stay in the Kingdom of Barbados half a year earlier than Rhys due to similar circumstances.

The girl was kind and strong.

She had the skill to handle spirit magic, was kind-hearted, and strong-willed. If someone made fun of Rhys calling her an [Bad Omen[ she would go over and beat them to a pulp.

Aisha was the kind of person that Rhys looked up to.

It was Aisha, of all people, who taught Rhys how to read, write, and do simple arithmetic.

Although discrimination against half-elves is deep-rooted, thanks to Aisha’s presence, she does not suffer any severe abuse and is happy in her own way, despite some inconvenience.

However, that life came to an end when Rhys turned 11 years old.

A plague broke out in the Kingdom of Barbados.

There were no vaccines or antibiotics, and the nutritional value of the food was not very high.

In the house next door, in the house in front, and in their own house, someone in their family dies. If they are not, they all die. It is an everyday occurrence that the house next door is suddenly empty one day.

People are dying, unrest is spreading, and taxes are rising as the air in the city grows darker.

The Kingdom of Barbados is in dire straits, and popular discontent is building up. In the midst of this situation, The then King Barbados said this in a volatile situation that could lead to a revolution if left unchecked.

[The half-elves in this country have spread this plague. An omen of bad luck is plunging the people of Barbados into misfortune.]

He said.

Basically, the Kingdom of Barbados does not reject the entry of half-elves.

However, once every few years, only in times of plague or famine, the [Half-Elf Extermination Law] is established. And the people, ravaged by plague and discontent, turned into a mob.

“Kill ! Kill the half-elves ! ! !”

“Oh, come to think of it, there was a half-elf kid in that house !”

The people of Barbados break into Rhys’s house.

“Rhys ! Go to the Adventurer’s Guild ! ……I’m sure your father’s name, who was a grade-A adventurer, will work there. They should be able to at least shelter you during this riot !”

“……! But Mother ! !”

“I’m a human being, unlike Rhys. So don’t worry. I’m fine !”

Rhys was thrown out the window by her mother.

“Kill the omen !”

“The mother who gave birth to the bad omen is just as guilty ! Drag her out !”

“Kill her ! !”

The voice of the people of Barbados can be heard.

“Mother ! Mother ! ! !”

Rhys recounted the scene with tears streaming down her face.

From outside the window, Rhys’s mother was grabbed by the arm, held down, fingered, and strangled, and Rhys could hear her mother’s horrific screams.

Still, Rhys was too scared to go to her mother’s aid.

“Hey, don’t let the bad omen get away too !”

She got one last little glimpse of her mother being slashed in the stomach with a machete. Still, it seems that the shape of her mouth was telling Rhysto to run away.

Rhys ran. But she was only 11 years old. She was a half-elf child with a longer life expectancy than a human.

There was no way she could run away from the adults who were chasing her.

Rhys was grabbed by one of the adults.

“I heard that if you eat from a half-elf’s womb, you won’t get the plague.”

“I see. So, since you sowed the bad luck yourself, you have something in your belly to prevent it.”

The blade of the machete brushes against the belly of eleven-year-old Rhys.

But the next moment, the adult who was trying to grab Rhys blows up a little further.

“I’m here to help you, Rhys. Let’s run away together.”

There stood a girl with silver hair and red eyes just like Rhys–the half-elf Aisha.
