A week has passed since the sports festival ended.

Since that day, my head has been filled with the words Fuyusaki told me.

(I knew that’s what she meant…….)

The words that Fuyusaki said to me during the last competition of the sports festival.

I could feel Fuyusaki’s feelings from the expression on her face and the sound of her voice at that time.

I’d be lying if I said that I’ve never thought of it that way before.

But as long as it didn’t come out in words, I was never convinced.

And we would have been able to get along better with each other if I hadn’t.

But Fuyusaki told me.

If I heard that, I had to give an answer.

But I don’t know how I feel….

(Seriously, that’s lame…)

For the past week, Fuyusaki has been avoiding me and I haven’t been able to talk to her.

As usual, I’m still in over my head today.

“Ken, you haven’t been feeling well lately. What’s wrong?”

Rikuto asks me at lunchtime when he sees me looking down.

“Indeed, you’ve been looking absentminded for the past week.”

Makoto agrees with Rikuto.

“Well, you said something like that at the sports festival. People around you will say a lot of things, but don’t worry about it !”

“You were the one who said it the most.”

“Makoto, you can’t grow up if you keep looking to the past.”

While the two of them were engaged in a mysterious contrast, I was thinking about what Rikuto had said.

Now that I think about it, I said something embarrassing like that all over school.

And to someone who claims to like me…….

“I could die light !”

I drop the spoon in my hand, and I hold my head in my hands as I let out a pained cry.

“What’s up with you all of a sudden? Did you finally break down?”

“Don’t pry too much, Rikuto. Ken is at that age too.”

Again the two of them were saying something, but their voices were not reaching me.

That evening I was having dinner with Ayaka and Hitomi.

Ayaka was sitting next to me and Hitomi  san was sitting across from me, and she looked strangely happy.

“Mom, your face is annoying.”

When Ayaka points this out, Hitomi san’s face turns into an expression of surprise and she tries to tighten her face.

But it soon loosens up.

“Something good happened to you?”

I ask, and her innocent smile turns into a gentle smile as she answers.

“…Kenshiro kun has been eating at home lately, right? That makes me happy…”

Since that day at Kanata’s house, I have been trying to have dinner at home.

I’ve decided to face them as a family.

I’ve been eating out basically alone up until then, so Hitomi san seemed to be happy that that was no longer the case.

I don’t feel bad about it.

If I was going to feel this way, I should have confronted her sooner.

“I wish I had done this earlier, too. Hitomi san’s food tastes so good.”

As I speak from my heart, Hitomi san’s eyes tear up and she stands up to cover them.

“Kenshiro kun, do you want another plate?”

“Yes. I’ll have some more.”

When I say that, she stands up happily again and serves me some food.

“……Someday, the four of us.”

I hear Hitomi san’s murmurs in my ears, and I feel bad.

I’m definitely the one standing in the way of that dream.

(Maybe it’s about time)

Ayaka is listening to this exchange as she stares at my face.

“What is it?”

“……No, nothing.”

I didn’t have the same energy as usual, but I stopped worrying that there would be days like that.

2:00 a.m.

The front door of Mitsui’s household is opened and a man comes home.

He is carrying what appears to be a number of papers in his hands, and Kenya looks exhausted.

Kenya used to be away from home a lot, but recently he has been coming home more often.

And it was easy to guess when the next time would be.

When Kenya opened the door leading to the living room, he found a boy sitting at the table waiting for him.

Kenya’s eyes widen in surprise when he sees Kenshiro.

It’s a situation that hasn’t happened in the parent-child relationship in the past few years.

“…..Come on, let’s talk about it. Old man.”

Seeing Kenshiro with such a determined look on his face, Kenya smiled back.

“You need to tone down a bit. Smart boy.”

Kenya puts his luggage next to the table and sits down across from Kenshiro.
