One heavy fist to the head and that scum crumbled to the ground.

Concrete dust flew and a dull thud echoed through the alley.

Just as I raised my foot and was about to crush him with the sole of my shoe, Souichi’s sharp voice rang out, “Hey, Yuito ! Stay calm !”

The foot that had just started to stomp suddenly stops.

His breathing is ragged and his chest is rising and falling violently.

“Haa….haa…..!” I close my eyes and shake my head to regain my composure.

If I kill him here, what will happen to Yua chan? Who’s going to take care of her?

If I’m go8ing to do it…it can’t be done in public like this.

In the first place, there’s no way I’m going to let it end this easily.

“….My bad…”

I give a small apology to Soichi, and he approaches me with a raised eyebrow.

“….Yeah. Calm down…this old man isn’t dead, is he?” Fearfully, I put my hand on his neck and checked for a pulse.

There is a short pause, then, “…He seems to be alive.” But what are we going to do?

If he wakes up, he’ll go wild again, won’t he?

“If the commotion gets any bigger, the police might come…” He turned his eyes to me.

“…..Let’s go inside the house for now.”

The two of us carry the scum’s body up.

His sweaty shirt digs into his shoulders and a faint moan escapes.

Once inside the house, we tie his hands and feet to the chair with the rope and duct tape we had in the car.

I’m ready to kill him, but I can’t start without first listening to him.

Just as I finished restraining him, the intercom rang.

At this timing…is there a visitor?

I hope he left without answering the door, but considering the commotion earlier, it was most likely the police.

As I furrowed my brow, I heard that detective’s voice over the speaker, “…Ah~, Ito san, are you here?”

His laid-back tone sends a chill down my spine.

I have so many things I want to say, but I can’t let him see me in this situation.

Soichi gestures with his eyes that he’ll go and heads to the entrance.

I put additional duct tape over the scum’s mouth and quietly move to the corner of the living room so as not to make any noise. I eavesdrop on their conversation through the wall.

“Oh, hello~ Evening !”

Soichi greets with his characteristic cheerfulness.

The sound of footsteps echoes on the front mat, and the door creaks a little.

“This is a little surprising. Who are you?” The detective continues.

“Ah~, I’m a distant relative of the owner of this house…. Well, you see, he’s been causing a lot of trouble lately, and there’s been a lot of talk about it among his relatives ! That’s why I came to check on him !”

“I see~. That’s a lot of work, isn’t it? So? Is Ito san here?”

“No, he’s not at home right now… I went inside to look for him, but he wasn’t there !”

“….I see. But you see. Earlier, there was a report of Ito san brandishing a kitchen knife around here…. I actually had some contact with him… so I came to have a look…”

“Eh !? He was causing such a problem again !? What a pain…I’ll have to ask him to finally go to an institution or even jail…”

“He must have been in quite a shock after having his daughter kidnapped.”

Anger welled up again at those words.

Kidnapped !? That damn detective…!

Soichi’s fist naturally almost crashes into a fist, but he continues calmly.

“Ah~, was it Yua chan? She was kidnapped? But…well, considering the devastation of this house, I think it’s still better to be kidnapped.”

“…..You’re right. If he is not at home…there is a possibility that he may have another incident elsewhere, so I’m going to go take a look around here for a bit. If he comes back, could you contact me immediately?”

“I understand !”

“…..May I ask your name?”

“Yes ! I am Ito Atsushi !”

“……I understand. Okay, then.”

The footsteps move away and the detective leaves.

Soichi, you are quite good.

He naturally gave a false name in that situation and acted as if he was used to saying it without any hesitation.

Soichi peeked out the front door, and about two minutes later, he came back running.

“That was close~. I’m glad the lie wasn’t discovered~” He says, tapping on the shoulder.

“You…you’re kind of amazing. When did you acquire such skills?”

“I’ve been around the world a lot. Let’s leave that interesting story for another time…what are you gonna do? I’m sure the detective will be back after some time.”

“…Yeah. I’ll take this guy somewhere…If the detective find out about this, it’ll be troublesome.”

“Somewhere…do you know where?”

“…..We have a warehouse where we can take escaped debtors. We can take him there…”

We go out the back door.

The humid air hits my nose, and I pull over a car parked nearby.

I wrap the scraps in a futon and throw them in the back seat.

His whole body is restrained, so he shouldn’t be able to get out of control.

I remove the duct tape from his mouth and start the engine.

This is the first time I’ve done this sort of thing in person.

I’ve caught escaped debtors and carried them to a warehouse, but I’ve never done anything beyond that.

If someone is using it now…well, it won’t be that suspicious.

After an hour’s drive, we entered a mountain road.

Trees cover the road, and the sound of tires chewing gravel echoes through the car.

After another 15 minutes of driving up a steep hill, we arrived at our destination.

It is an old warehouse.

It seems that the bodies were being disposed of here in secret.

I enter the code, and the rusty shutters creak open.

Inside is dusty, with old oil stains spreading across the concrete floor.

There is not the slightest smell of a corpse.

No one would imagine that people are being killed in a place like this.

The two of us drag the scum out of the car and tie him to a chair in the back of the warehouse.

The rope bites tight and a groan escapes. I check his pulse again, and he’s alive.

He really is a stubborn bastard.

“….So? What are you gonna do…? Should we cut to the chase”

Soichi asks me in a low voice. In the dimly lit warehouse, his eyes are looking at me seriously.

Now that we’ve come this far…we have to do it.

“…Yeah…let’s.”

At that moment, I heard a sound from outside.

A car was coming up the mountain road, the sound of a low engine.

The sound of tires treading on gravel was gradually getting closer.
