As for Ryu, it is not that he has any grudge against Catherine personally.

He had a certain amount of resentment toward the Adventurers’ Guild in this city, or more precisely, toward the old adventurers who belonged to it, but that resentment has mostly been resolved.

He had a grudge against Mimru’s Adventurers’ Guild, but he didn’t start with that much thought in mind as to whether he held a grudge against the entire organization, including the Adventurers’ Guild Headquarters.

Of course, he was dissatisfied with the way the situation had been left unchecked for so many years. He also thought that the Adventurers’ Guild, which had been mired in corruption and interest for so long, would be better off without it.

So Ryu asked, [What is the raison d’etre of the Adventurers’ Guild?] He decided to ask Catherine the fundamental question.

What is the role of the Adventurers’ Guild and what is its raison d’etre?

After listening to Catherine’s thoughts on the subject, Ryu  found some of what she said convincing and some not.

Catherine emphasized the role of adventurers as a defensive force for the city. But to begin with, adventurers are not city guards. Adventurers are not hired by the city or the state. They may be hired on a temporary basis, but that is a free contract, paid on a case-by-case basis. It does not mean that adventurers are always obligated to protect the country or the city. That is what Ryu pointed out.

Catherine said that if war breaks out, adventurers are basically free to not participate in the war if they cannot agree on the compensation. (Not all countries require adventurers to be conscripted, but many of them are dictatorships that forbid free departure from the country. Otherwise, all adventurers would run away.)

Adventurers are simply individuals working for personal gain. No one would say that they are adventurers because they want to protect people without regard to profit or loss. Those who want to do such work with pride should become guards.

Catherine emphasized the danger that adventurers would only work for profit if the Commercial Guild took over the work that had been done by the Adventurers’ Guild.

Adventurers thin out in the dungeon—sometimes they are asked to help maintain the security of the town—and it is only because they make money. They do it because they can make money, because they can get paid, not because they are doing it for charity.

In other words, the Adventurers’ Guild is similar to the idea of a Commercial Guild.

So how did the Adventurers’ Guild system come about?

If you are serious about rebuilding the Adventurers’ Guild, shouldn’t you think about that? Ryu said.

It is said that the Adventurers’ Guild began as a group of retired adventurers who formed an organization to support active adventurers.

We should go back to that starting point, Ryu said.

The Adventurers’ Guilds have been in existence for a long time, and before long, the number of those who have vested interests in the guilds and try to protect them has increased. Many of them are involved in bribery and other corrupt activities to line their own pockets.

Instead of supporting adventurers, they have become an organization that controls and exploits them.

Ryu declared that if such an organization existed, it would only be a matter of time before it collapsed. From the beginning, he thought that a Commercial Guild that operated solely on profit and loss account would be more compatible with the adventurer’s temperament.

In the current situation, adventurers who belong to the Adventurers’ Guild are only exploited and entrenched in the interest structure.

However, Ryu does not intend to deny the existence of the Adventurers’ Guild. He does not believe that the Adventurers’ Guild is an evil organization that must be destroyed. The Adventurers’ Guild was born out of necessity, and it has been useful in some ways.

If they return to that point and continue to help and support adventurers with sincerity, rather than pretending to be a great organization, adventurers will eventually come back.

If they were willing to do that, Ryu said, he would be willing to cooperate. Ryu had no obligation to cooperate with the Adventurers’ Guild. Since Ryu was the one who started the whole thing, he felt a little guilty about causing trouble for others.

Catherine said she would think it over and that was the end of the conversation, but later she fully accepted what Ryuujin had said and promised to work as an organization that would faithfully support adventurers.

Catherine decided to begin the revitalization of the Adventurers’ Guild.

First, she reported the current situation and proposed improvements to the guild headquarters, and their response was to officially appoint Catherine as the master of the Adventurers’ Guild in Mimul.

This was not an appointment based on an evaluation of Catherine’s achievements. On the contrary. Catherine, who had been working at the guild’s central headquarters, had been pushed into the position of master of a guild in the countryside, a guild that was on the verge of collapse. It should have been thought that the guild headquarters was against her.

It is only natural.

“The structure of the Adventurers’ Guild, which is mired in interests, should be reformed and we should return to what the Adventurers’ Guild should be.”

At first glance, Catherine’s proposal sounded excellent. On the face of it, no one could possibly object. But, of course, for the “people in the upper of the guild who are full of vested interests” it would just be a matter of nonsense.

Of course, Catherine was prepared for this.

She could have made a proper report, appointed one of the adventurers in town as master, and returned to headquarters, but the serious-minded Catherine could not leave the guild, which had been involved to this point, and return irresponsibly.

Perhaps, if left in its current state, the Adventurers’ Guild in this city would go under in the not-too-distant future.

Even if the guild were to request that the headquarters dispatch someone to become its master, it would not have an abundant surplus of human resources.

A guild in a rural town would probably only be able to get people who had been left behind, or they might be left without a replacement, with Catherine left in her place for a long time.

If that eventually happens, she will have to do it herself. In the first place, no argument can be persuasive without a proven track record.

She would have to rebuild this crumbling Adventurers’ Guild in the countryside herself. It is a difficult task, but Catherine is feeling a little rewarded.

Catherine officially became the guild’s master and promised to return to honest guild management.

In response, Ryu promised to cooperate fully with Catherine. Ryu saw with his divine eye that Catherine herself felt that she had been given a poor deal, but he liked the fact that she never complained or expressed any weakness, but instead looked forward to the future.

Although Ryu was partly to blame for being pushed into the poor position, and although he did not feel that he was responsible for the personnel changes at the guild headquarters, it was also true that he felt somewhat guilty.

First of all, Ryu changed the purchase of materials to be outsourced entirely to the Adventurers’ Guild.

He also returned the core of the dungeon that had been taken away and made the dungeon active again.

Once word of the dungeon’s revival spread, adventurers would soon gather in the city.

The Adventurers’ Guild’s policy was to provide adventurers with maps and precautions in the dungeon, and to focus on teaching low-ranked adventurers and beginners.

Catherine approached Ryuujin to see if he would be willing to take on this leadership role.

However,Ryuujin immediately refused.

She asked him if he would accept a “request” to support a newcomer’s party. Ryu answered that he would be willing to do so on occasion.

He said he would be happy to help out on occasion, but that it wouldn’t mean much to him.

He would rather have his own guidance. He had been an adventurer for three years and had done nothing but pick medicinal herbs.

Since his memories of his past life and reincarnation had returned and his abilities had been awakened, he had only been hunting with his overwhelming cheat abilities, so he was unaware of the precautions and know-how required of a normal adventurer.

Ryu said that if it was instruction on picking medicinal herbs, he might be able to take on the job since he was a veteran. He was only joking, but when he saw Catherine’s oddly enthusiastic response, he thought that it was a bad idea…..
