My name is Daniel Macri. I am the master of the Adventurer’s Guild in the city of Mimru.

I used to be a B rank adventurer. I didn’t move up to A rank because it would have been too much trouble. My ability was A rank.

I retired from adventuring when I became guild master. Since then, I have been managing and guiding adventurers. Considering my contribution to the guild over the years, I think I deserve a commendation.

But what was this woman who suddenly arrived from headquarters claiming to be the inspector?!

She says she came from headquarters to investigate because there was a report of improper management in this guild.

Who the hell did she think she was, acting like a spy?! I’ll find out later and make it worse !

I instructed the receptionist to take the woman to the reception room and serve her tea, but she refused and began inspecting the guild without once sitting down.

Somehow, there were always a few guild employees gathered around the woman walking around, complaining about something. I’m sure they are protesting that there is no problem that would warrant an inspection, and they are good subordinates who are quite bossy.

I think she can hear me badmouthing them, but it’s probably just my imagination.

The woman now went inside the reception counter and started checking the documents. The receptionist and other staff members were piling up documents one after another in front of her.

They were probably piling up evidence to prove that there was nothing wrong with the place, and they were asking her to take a look. The woman’s eyes seem to be black and white as she listens to the staff. Suck it up.

Sometimes the woman and the staff stare at me, but I guess it’s just my imagination.

While I was thinking so, the woman entered the Guild Master’s office to check the documents.

Don’t enter the room without permission. I tried to stop her in a hurry, but for some reason, many staff members came and held me down.

Another staff member seemed to be helping her and the woman turn over the desks and shelves in the office.

What the hell are you guys doing?!?!?!?!

Soon after, the woman came up to me and complained about the fact that the profit from the sale of materials had been drastically decreasing for the past couple of months.

No problem. It seems that Ryu has recently started offering jobs to adventurers in the Commercial Guild. I hear that this has led to a decrease in work, but that’s only temporary, due to Ryu’s shallow thinking. In the long run, this is a stepping stone to another positive turnaround. Women are no good because they don’t understand such things.

In the past week, there have been no sales or purchases of materials, and no requests received or fulfilled?!

That can’t be true, what are you talking about?

No matter how much work is down, there can’t be zero work.

The woman came to me in the evening, the sun had completely set and it was dark, so I told her to continue the story tomorrow. I didn’t want to waste the magic stone in the lamp, too.

Oh, okay, I’ll clean up the office during the night so that the inspector can easily do her research. I said yes, but for some reason I was forced out.

For some reason, I wasn’t allowed to go home and was forced to stay at an inn. Also, I was told that two adventurers who came with the woman would be staying with me.

I had my own house in the town, so why should I stay at an inn with these two guys?!?!

I tried to leave the inn and go home, but the guys wouldn’t let me. These two guys are remarkable. How could I, a former B-rank adventurer, be held down and not be able to move?

The next morning came and I was brought back to the Adventurers’ Guild.

It had been a long time since I had shown up at the guild this early in the morning, since I had always come to work at a more leisurely, later hour.

But what’s going on?

Not good.

….This is bad.

The Adventurers’ Guild in the early morning is usually crowded with adventurers who are trying to get the best requests.

But when I opened the door of the guild, what I saw was an empty room and a lonely receptionist waiting alone at the counter for adventurers.

What is this?!

What, they say it’s been like this for the past week?!

That’s absurd. I had received reports that there were fewer jobs, that no adventurers were coming, and so on. How can it be zero?

Apparently, the inspector woman had been up all night going through the guild’s internal documents. There were a few staff members who were helping her.

A woman came up to me and said she was going to hold me on numerous charges of fraud, bribery, embezzlement, power harassment, etc., etc. She even says that I’m suspected of murder. I don’t understand what she is talking about.

The official punishment will be made after they have more data to investigate, but for now, the woman says she will put me in a holding cell in the basement of the guild.

Why the hell do I have to go into that?!

I snapped.

She said she was an inspector from headquarters, but she could be a fake !?

She showed me her guild card, but it could be a counterfeit card !

Yes, it must be a fake ! !

This fraud must be trying to steal by pretending to be the inspector and getting into the guild.

I exclaimed, and the guild officials looked at me with a look of dismay and pity. Why?!

Well, all I had to do was catch the swindler, torture her, and make her confess. With my torture skills, even white things turn black.

Fortunately, the two adventurers who came with her are gone. I could easily screw this one woman over.

A few minutes later, I was looking at the ceiling of the guild. I felt pain all over my body. What’s wrong with me?

…Yes, there was a con woman.

I caught her…..

…..I have to kill her.

It’s not uncommon to accidentally kill someone during a catch.

It happens all the time. Whatever the identity of the woman is, the dead have no say.

Then, the usual routine will return.

……No, that’s right…I remember now.

That woman was a hell of a person.

I pulled out my dagger and attacked her.

But she ducked all of my lightning sword blows. Instead, she counter-punched me all over.

The last thing I saw was the sole of her shoe.

I got kicked in the face and fell down.

I heard later that she was an A-rank adventurer. No wonder she was so strong.

The two missing men had gone to investigate my house. I heard that they confiscated some of the things I had taken from the adventurers.

Later, I was told by the woman that I was to be removed from my position as Guild Master.

Furthermore, she announced that she would demand compensation from me for all the profits that the guild was supposed to receive. That was an incredible amount of money.

All of the requests for logging and gathering that should have gone to the Adventurers’ Guild were instead sent to the Commercial Guild. If they had been brought to the Adventurers’ Guild, the guild would have earned a profit from the fees. Furthermore, the Adventurers’ Guild would have earned money from the sale of the materials they brought in.

However, it seems that the unusual jump in the monetary figure was due to the dragon material that Ryu brought in. If the guild had bought it, it would have earned more than 1 million G even if it had been sold as usual.

The Commercial Guild that bought the materials from Ryu apparently made a profit of more than 10 million G at the auction in King’s Landing.

They were going to charge me for all the lost profit.

I was glad to hear that they could not charge me the amount of the auction, but they said they would charge me the minimum amount they would have charged me if I had bought and sold at the Adventurers’ Guild.

If I can’t pay, she said, I will be dropped into debt slavery.

As for murder, I was told that I would not be made a criminal slave because there was not enough evidence to charge me with a crime, but I had never committed a murder. Those who died in the dungeon were responsible for their own deaths, and that should not be considered murder. I was just advising the old adventurers that there was a way to survive by cutting out those who lacked talent.

To compensate me, my entire balance in the guild bank was confiscated. All my savings from my time as an adventurer, the “rewards” I had received for doing favors for adventurers since becoming a master, and all the other savings I had accumulated were gone.

However, thanks to this, I did not become a debt slave. I still owed a large amount of money, enough to make me a slave under normal circumstances, but the Adventurers’ Guild agreed to hire me as their exclusive slave, so I did not become a slave.

However, I’m bound by contract magic and cannot disobey the guild’s orders until I pay back the debt. Every day, from morning to night, I was ordered to do chores without a break.

I was also forced to accept requests that other adventurers did not want to do. It was a pain in the ass to do such requests with nothing more than a cheap sword and a piece of shabby used armor.

As a slave, you are guaranteed food, clothing, and shelter, but mine was merely a contract of employment, so there was no guarantee of any kind of livelihood.

I was forced to sell off all the valuable things in my house and became so poor that I thought I might have had a better life if I had become a slave.

[Hey ! Stop slacking off ! Did you finish cleaning the warehouse?!]

[Yes, right away ! !]

At this rate, it would be 50 years before the debt was paid. I wonder if I will be alive by then?!
