A few evenings after he left Jorma and the others in the dungeon, Ryu was about to eat at a restaurant in town when he noticed that his meal had been poisoned.
Perhaps realizing that they would be no match for him in a head-on battle or by taking him by surprise and striking him in the dark, they decided to poison him as a last resort.
There have been many cases in which strong martial artists, no matter how strong, ended up being poisoned because they were resented by the bereaved families of the people they killed.
However, Ryu has the ability to foresee danger in the near future. He can also detect poison. This is part of the “divine eye” skill that Ryu possesses, which is always passively activated.
There is a skill called “magic eye” that can highly appraise various objects, but “divine eye” is a higher level skill. It is a skill that is exercised using “divine power” without using magic power, and those who know only magic power will not even know of the existence of this ability.
However, Ryu, who knew about it, had been given resistance to all kinds of poisons and the ability to heal. But that does not mean that he is willing to go out of his way to eat poison.
Ryu activated his divine eye at full power. When the divine eye is fully activated, Ryu’s eyes turn golden. In this state, he can even see into the minds of the people around him.
Soon the poisoner and his collaborators were identified. After all, they seemed to be the family members of Jorma and the others. They deserved to be killed, but the bereaved family still harbored a grudge. They had it coming because they had tried to kill Ryu and had been beaten back, so it was nothing but resentment.
Although he has no grudge against the bereaved family, there is a high possibility that problems will arise later if he keeps alive a person who uses assassination as a means of gaining his grudge. Even if he is okay, the people around him may be harmed.
Ryu put the silver coins on the table and silently got up from his seat. There seemed to be a bit of a commotion going on in the back of the restaurant. One of the cooks in the kitchen collapsed. However, Ryu did not care and left the restaurant.
The dish served to Ryu was empty. The food was transferred directly into the stomachs of the waiter who had poisoned him and the bereaved family who had requested it.
Since the waiter seemed to have only been forced to do so by being paid, he only transferred a small amount of the poisoned food. They would suffer, but their lives would be spared.
Maybe the trauma of experiencing the suffering of the poison firsthand will prevent him from continuing as a chef, but if he can get over it….he may be able to continue again.
Ryu hopes he will reflect on this and never do anything like that again in the future. The next time he finds one, he will show no mercy. No chef should ever serve poison to customers.
However, thinking about it calmly, even if that chef were to return to that restaurant in the future, he has no desire to eat food served by that chef who tried to poison him. If he survived, he would visit him later and have a “talk” with him.
In the end, he never saw the man again at the restaurant. It was rumored that the man survived, but that he had quit the restaurant and returned to his hometown.
