During the midterm exam period, school ends every day at noon, so time passes faster than I expected.
After taking a test, I immediately start preparing for the next day’s test.
Of course, I don’t have the time to review the test I took that day.
I can’t afford to waste time or brainpower on unnecessary tasks, so even if I find a question that bothers me during the test, I have to grit my teeth and wait until the entire schedule is over.
Reviewing and reflecting on the tests has to wait until everything is finished.
And so, the schedule progressed smoothly.
Before I knew it, it was the final subject of the final day.
“It felt both long and short~”
“Good job.”
“You’re saying it like it’s none of your business, but what about you?”
During the final review period before the exam, I was in the hallway with Reisa, organizing our study materials.
After all, the final subject was Communication English.
It was the subject we had prepared for the most, so we couldn’t help but get really into it.
Reisa was also looking at her notebook with an unusually serious expression.
We took turns asking each other questions to make sure our knowledge was flowing smoothly.
“Um, that’s…no, cough. It’s what the maid taught me….”
“The maid seemed really smart, didn’t she?”
“Eh, well, yeah, I guess so.”
She looked about the same age, but which high school did she attend?
If someone could speak English that well and articulate their knowledge like that, would they go to a university overseas?
But then again, being a maid means she’s already working, right?
I’m not familiar with the world of young ladies, so I don’t really know.
Well, I was calm enough to think about such trivial things.
I was surprisingly calm.
I had a good feeling about the other subjects so far, but I had also prepared extensively for the subjects to come.
All I had to do now was put it all out there.
In fact, the only thing I’m worried about in this test is whether I got the difficult math problem in Math A right.
To be honest, I’m not confident I got it perfect.
But there’s no point in dwelling on the subjects I’ve already taken, and even if I subtract that, this test is going well overall, so there’s no need to panic.
I prepared for the listening section by talking with the maid.
My speaking was also on par with a native speaker, so honestly, I feel like her real English was more helpful than the idiom lessons for test preparation.
I’m a little jealous of Reisa.
If I had a maid like that, I might have gotten perfect scores in both English subjects by now.
Well, I guess it’s lucky that I was able to build a relationship where I can meet her in person.
However, the problem is still Takagi.
No matter how many points I get, my goal is to come in first this time, so it all depends on his score.
To put it bluntly, even if I scored 999 out of 1,000 points, if he scored 1,000 points, I’d lose.
There’s nothing I can do about that.
It’s unlikely that he’ll get perfect scores in all subjects, so it all depends on Takagi.
All I can do is pray.
Even so, the atmosphere in the hallway is gloomy.
Everyone is waiting in the hallway while the teacher prepares to distribute the test papers, but you can tell from the tone of their voices and the content of their conversations that their spirits are low.
It seems that everyone is feeling defeated by this test.
I also found it difficult to solve, and the students who skipped studying are probably feeling desperate right now.
I had predicted that the average score would be quite low.
As I was thinking about that, Reisa sighed.
She then looked up and gave me a relaxed smile.
“Actually, this test was pretty easy, wasn’t it?”
“…Yeah, maybe.”
I was startled by Reisa’s comment, which was the opposite of the atmosphere around me and my own thoughts.
I nodded vaguely, and she continued, pointing her finger.
“Everyone says it’s difficult, but a lot of what the teacher said in class came up, and there were more thinking questions than memorization questions this time, so it was easy for me to solve.”
“That’s because you took those measures.”
“Thanks to Tsukushi?”
“No, that’s not it.”
My teaching alone couldn’t have changed her thinking ability.
I taught her how to think, but ultimately, she has to solve the problems on her own, so it’s definitely her own ability.
As I watched Reisa return to her preparations, I was speechless.
Maybe…no, surely not.
Perhaps the person I need to be most wary of is no longer Takagi or Nagisa.
Maybe I’m overthinking it.
But when I look at her calm face next to me, I can’t help but feel scared.
As I mentioned yesterday, Nagisa’s complexion wasn’t that good either.
It was a level of difficulty that even she found challenging.
I’m amazed at Reisa’s mental strength to call it easy.
In fact, Takagi isn’t the only one I need to be wary of if I want to take first place this time.
Looking at the recent results, Nagisa’s grades are better than Takagi’s, and some might argue that she’s the biggest threat.
Plus, I’ve been giving Nagisa a lot of support this time.
Since I know that Takagi once mocked my English grades, I wanted to beat that jerk in English as well, so I supported Nagisa with all my might.
If that caused Nagisa’s English score to rise by about 20 points…I don’t want to think about it, but my first place position would be in serious jeopardy.
It’s still better than losing to Takagi, but my dream would be pushed further away, making for a tough situation.
It’s really complicated.
Friends can be a source of strength at times, but they can also be a source of trouble at other times.
As I was thinking about this, Reisa suddenly started laughing again.
“Well, it’s possible that I got all the questions wrong. Haha, idiots don’t even understand the difficulty level.”
“…Alright, let’s review the test material one more time.”
“Okay. What about this one? Um…”
Was I overthinking it?
Which one was Reisa?
Seeing her cheerful face, which didn’t fit the situation, I secretly grew more wary.
